BUDGET DE LA GENTE

Southwest Project Winners

CYCLE 4 AWARDEES

  • This proposal seeks funding to help low- or fixed-income residents of Ward 1 prevent eviction, provide emergency housing, and establish a sustainable program through future grants and funding.

  • Community Home Repair Projects of Arizona, partnering with Tucson Collaborative Community Care, offers essential home repair services—roof repairs, plumbing repairs, sewage issues, etc.—to residents of Southwest Tucson in times of emergency to ensure their safety and health in their historic homes.

  • A community cleanup would be planned with intentions to remove trash, educate volunteers on invasive plants/weeds, and install basins and native plants along the path.

  • The Tucson City of Gastronomy seeks support to provide Tucson Ward 1-based food and craft vendors with free participation, permits, and tents for the event, enabling free public admission to the event.

  • To benefit the residents of the Santa Cruz Neighborhood, this project will improve the area along the bike path on 26th Street through landscaping, building benches, and bike racks

CYCLE 4 AWARDEES

South Project Winners

  • Primarily coordinated by The Sunnyside Foundation and in collaboration with the Community Food Bank and Sunnyside Unified School District, Desert View High School will host monthly distributions of food—produce, packaged food items, and special holiday food items—and toiletries for families from South Tucson to attend.

  • This proposal offers partnering with Watershed Management to install low-cost rainwater basins in South Tucson to benefit and beautify the community.

  • The Armando Barrios community leadership training series is a community-rooted training program organized by Regeneracion to strengthen neighborhood leadership, civic participation, and collective problem-solving among residents of Tucson’s southside, including Ward 1.

  • Working with local poet Eva Sierra, this all-age monthly poetry series includes an open mic, local guest DJs, and readings by featured poets to boost Ward 1 residents’ exposure to poetry and the arts.

  • This one-year workshop, led by a clinical therapist with support from a staff of school psychologists in South and Southwest Tucson, will help young girls and ladies, along with their families, learn about topics such as the physiology of the brain, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and effective communication to equip them with the tools they need to go through life with resilience and emotional intelligence.

CYCLE 4 AWARDEES

West Project Winners

  • Ward 1 students will have the opportunity to participate in field trips to Mission Gardens where they embrace the indigenous culture of Tucson rooted in agriculture.

  • This proposal suggests turning a vacant space into an art gallery. There are currently no galleries in the Ward 1 area and this concept would fill that need. The space is the former Menlo Park liquors and the theme of the exhibition is an art bodega. This proposal hopes to bring awareness to the need for art galleries in the Westside area, bring together the local community, showcase local artists, and highlight the history of the former Menlo Park liquors and the Westside community.

  • This project seeks funding for traffic controls like speed humps, extended curbs, and more stop signs on Cedar street.

  • This proposal will create a family friendly event in Barrio Hollywood with food, music, games, and activities at a local park to foster connection amongst Ward 1.

CYCLE 4 AWARDEES

Northwest Project Winners

  • Seniors at El Rio Neighborhood Community Center are requesting funding for their lunch program where they will be provided hot, nutritious lunches since loss of federal funding caused their program to be cut.

  • This program at Tully Elementary Magnet School will provide support to meet the basic welfare needs of their students and families in need through emergency assistance micro-grants and a physical space at the school for parents and families to learn about resources and benefit from seasonal material drives.

  • Ward 1 seniors will have access to enhanced English class opportunities designed to strengthen critical reading, writing, and communication skills in pursuit of life-long learning.

CYCLE 4 AWARDEES

Downtown Project Winners

  • The Josafina Ahumada Worker Center is seeking funding to create a Barrio Cleanup program for Worker Center members to clean up the southside of Tucson neighborhoods by picking up litter, trash, and weeds in targeted areas.

  • This project aims to transform a high-traffic urban corner or path-adjacent lot into a shaded, secure, and resource rich hub in order to reduce heat-related illness, curb bike theft, and to celebrate the commuter spirit that defines Tucson’s bike culture.

  • This proposal is for a 12-month group therapy workshop with a local licensed and experienced therapist to form a community where families can discuss and work through the challenges and impacts of adolescence.
