Budget FY 2020/2021

  • During the budget discussion, Mayor Romero placed 4 motions on the table for consideration by the council. Council Member Santa Cruz motioned to move the items forward, and Council Member Cunningham seconded the motion. The following passed in a vote of 6-1.

    • Budget up to $500k for an equity needs assessment

    • Budget $250k to develop a comprehensive climate action plan 

    • Direct the City Manager to allocate funding for the hiring of 8 social workers that focus on prevention and addressing the root causes of crime, including but not limited to mental health, poverty, and lack of housing.

    • Allocate funding for the hiring of a Housing First Director to implement the Housing First Model.

  • Following comments from Mayor Romero, Council Member Santa Cruz moved to delay the budget process in order to allow for more community input. Council Member Durham seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

  • Council Member Santa Cruz gave direction to City Manager Ortega to work on a participatory budgeting process and tool that can be used online to educate and engage the public with the city’s budget.

Housing

  • Council Member Santa Cruz made a motion to restore and reimagine the Housing Commission and rename it the Commission on Equitable Housing and Development. The commission will focus on increasing city investment in housing, preserving affordability while increasing our housing stock, protecting our barrios and communities from rapid change and displacement, and facilitate equitable conversations and solutions. The motion passed unanimously.

Presupuesto del año fiscal 2020/2021

  • Durante la discusión sobre el presupuesto, la Alcaldesa Romero puso 4 mociones sobre la mesa para la consideración de el consejo. Miembro del consejo Santa Cruz hizo una moción para avanzar los artículos.. Lo siguiente fue aprobado en una votación de 6-1.

    • Presupuesto de hasta $500k para una evaluación de equidad

    • BudgetPresupuesto de $250k para desarrollar un plan integral de acción climática

    • Dirigir al administrador de la ciudad que asigne fondos para la contratación de 8 trabajadores sociales que se centren en la prevención y las causas fundamentales de la delincuencia, incluidas, entre otras, la salud mental, la pobreza y la falta de vivienda.

    • Asignar fondos para la contratación de un Director de Housing First para implementar el Modelo de Housing First.

  • Después de los comentarios de la alcaldesa Romero, el miembro del Consejo Santa Cruz hizo una moción para retrasar el proceso del presupuesto para permitir más aportes de la comunidad. La moción fue aprobada por unanimidad.

  • Miembro del Consejo Santa Cruz dio direcciones al administrador municipal Ortega para trabajar en un proceso de presupuesto participativo y una herramienta que se puede utilizar en línea para educar y involucrar al público con el presupuesto de la ciudad.

Housing

  • El miembro del Consejo Santa Cruz hizo una moción para restaurar y reimaginar la Comisión de Vivienda y renombrarla Comisión de Vivienda y Desarrollo Equitativo. La comisión se enfocará en aumentar la inversión de la ciudad en viviendas, preservando la accesibilidad al tiempo que aumenta nuestro inventario de viviendas, protegiendo a nuestros barrios y comunidades del rápido cambio y desplazamiento, y facilitando conversaciones y soluciones equitativas. La moción fue aprobada por unanimidad.

In Episode 10 of Know Tucson, Council Member Lane Santa Cruz and Liz Soltero share some opportunities to get community feedback on the cities adoption of its recommended budget and to talk about Ordinance 11746.

 

The City of Tucson is preparing a city-wide transportation master plan that will create a mobility blueprint for the City’s future in a rapidly-changing world. The plan will be innovative, creative, and inclusive. By working together, we can commit ourselves to create a mobility future that works for all of us.

How can streets be made safer? How can we expand travel options so more people can walk, bike, or take public transit? How do we improve reliability of travel time, particularly as we grow? We need your help shaping the City’s vision and action plan to answer these questions and more.

Together, we can create the city we want to be. The outcome of the planning process will be a document that informs the Mayor and Council’s decisions in the very near future about policy, resources, and how welcoming and livable our city is to visitors, residents, and business owners.

La Ciudad de Tucson está preparando un plan maestro que contendrá el modelo de movilidad que nuestra ciudad seguirá en el futuro. El plan será innovador, creativo e inclusivo. Trabajando juntos podemos crear un futuro modelo de movilidad que funcione para todos.

¿Cómo podemos hacer que nuestras calles sean más seguras? ¿Cómo podemos expandir nuestras opciones de movilidad para que más gente pueda caminar, andar en bici o usar el transporte público? ¿Cómo podemos mejorar la estabilidad e invariabilidad de nuestros tiempos de traslado, aun cuando nuestra ciudad continúa creciendo? Necesitamos su ayuda moldeando y estableciendo la visión y plan de acción de la ciudad el cual nos ayudará a resolver estas preguntas y muchas más. Juntos podemos cambiar nuestra ciudad para bien.

Este proceso generará un documento que guiará al alcalde y al cabildo en un futuro cercano. Este documento se usará para tomar decisiones sobre nuestras políticas de movilidad, la distribución del dinero público y cambios en nuestra calidad de vida. Estas decisiones mejoraran la calidad de vida de todos: residentes, visitantes y dueños de negocios.
